13 Days Uganda Big Five Tour – Best of Uganda Safari highlights

Event: Big Five Tour, Primates, Birds, Culture & Gorilla Tracking

Duration: 13 Days/ 12 Nights.

This safari covers most of Uganda ‘s famous National parks , popular tourist activities and attractions. Uganda famously known as the “Pearl of Africa” is gifted with nature and has got 10 National parks. This is a real life time Adventure!!
Expect an encounter with the BIG FIVE animals (Rhinos, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion), African Mountain Gorillas, Antelopes, Giraffes, Zebras, 13 primate species like Chimps & monkeys, over 600 bird species and unique Ugandan culture among others.

BiG 5 SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival – Airport transfer.

Arrive at the airport, you are picked and transferred to hotel by a company tour guide. Depending on arrival time, you might have a visit to the Uganda museum or visit local African shops. Dinner and overnight at Golf course hotel / Cassia Lodge Kampala.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National park

Have breakfast at the hotel and hit the road to Murchison falls (4-5hrs), enroute visit to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, lunch in Masindi town, drive to the top of the falls, dinner and overnight at Paraa safari lodge / Sambiya Lodge, Red chilli Bandas.

Day 3: Murchison Falls game drive and boat cruise

Breakfast and proceed for an impressive and memorable game drive viewing the Big five animals including elephants, buffaloes, the great Uganda Kob, lion, hippos etc.
Have lunch and proceed for a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls for a heart felt experience. Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari lodge or Sambiya River lodge.

Day 4: Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest
Breakfast and then a briefing from the tour guide about the journey. Start off towards Fort portal via Hoima through the Butiaba Escarpments, arrive in Fort portal by late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Fort portal town (Mountains of the moon Hotel or Kibale Chimps Nest Lodge)

Day 5: Kibale forest primates tracking & Bigodi Swamp walk

Breakfast and a briefing, then depart for Kibale forest for chimps tracking. Arrive at the park and depart for the tracking of the chimps hence having a nature walk altogether in the forest.
Though the most sought after primate is the chimpanzee, even the black and white colobus are an item, with the red tailed monkeys. We have lunch at Chimp Nest Lodge before going to Bigodi swamp walk for more primates, birds and Antelopes OR, visit the crater lakes region. Dinner and overnight at your respective hotels.

Day 5: Fort Portal City & Cultural Tour

After breakfast, proceed to the neighboring Kabarole district to see Amabere ga nyinamwiru (Breasts of Nyinamwiru) cultural site, and a stop over at Nyakasura school the only of its kind in Uganda. With such a memorable experience forgetting the adventure is the last thing you can do; proceed for lunch in Fort portal town.

After lunch, have a visit to the Tooro King’s palace for a traditional adventure and then after proceed to visit the local communities around and encounter African culture to its fullest. Dinner and over night in Fort portal town.

Day 6: Travel to Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Park

Breakfast and proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park with enroute game drive, arrive in time for lunch before taking another game drive in the afternoon. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari lodge / Kyambura Lodge / Kingfisher lodge.

Day 7: Nature walk and Launch cruise

Breakfast and a short briefing of the day’s activities from the tour guide;
Proceed for a guide tour with a park Ranger; here you are able to explore the remoter parts of Mweya Peninsula, see lions, herds of elephants, antelopes, buffaloes etc. And after lunch proceed for a fantastic launch cruise and view large numbers of birds, hundreds of Hippos, mammals and reptiles at the shoreline. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari lodge / Kyambura Lodge / Kingfisher lodge.

Day 8: The Equator and the Queen’s Pavilion

Breakfast and then proceed to the Equator and have photographs , then visit the Queen’s Pavilion which was built in 1959 as a site to remember the Queen’s visit , then visit the coffee shop and also have lunch.
After lunch make a visit to Kyambura wildlife reserve, the area which protects the south-eastern banks of Kazinga channel, contains four crater lakes, in which thousands of Flamingos periodically congregate. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari lodge / Kyambura Lodge / Kingfisher lodge.

Day 9: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Forest

Breakfast and proceed to Bwindi passing through the park’s southerly Ishasha sector and having a chance to stop over for a short search of the famous tree climbing lions.
Enroute picnic lunch and arrive in the early evening. Dinner and over night at Gorilla resort / Buhoma Community rest camp.

Day 10: Bwindi Gorilla Tracking Adventure

Breakfast, a briefing from the tour guide.
Get equipped, have your lunch and water packed and then proceed for another briefing and registration from the game rangers.
Sort out equipments and depart for tracking; an adventure of a life time. Have a memorable day and in the evening transfer to lodge. Dinner and over night at Gorilla resort.

Day 11: Bwindi – Nature walks and local visits

Breakfast and briefing, proceed for guided nature walks and birding since Bwindi is a famous destination for bird watchers, have a view of over 100 bird species of the available 350 in the park and 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics, then have lunch.
After proceed for local community visits to the common pygmies here” Batwa” and experience tradition in its own category. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla resort / Silverback lodge / Buhoma community Rest camp.

Day 12: Bwindi – Murchison Falls

Breakfast and proceed to Murchison Falls enroute stop at Masindi for lunch and arrive in the afternoon. Dinner and over night at Paraa safari lodge or Sambiya River lodge.

Day 13: Kampala city tour – Departure

Breakfast and city tour of Kampala city and cultural sites; visit Kasubi tombs, Kabaka’s lake, Bahai temple, local art and Craft shops, Nakasero fruits market, then later depart for the airport for your scheduled flight.
